Indra Networks Announces a New PCI-X Compression Accelerator with 1 Gbps Throughput for Companies Engaged In the Business of Web Acceleration Appliances

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) December 14, 2005

Indra Networks today announced the availability of WebEnhance 300, a newly designed hardware compression accelerator with 1 Gbps throughput. WebEnhance 300 is the third compression coprocessor in the WebEnhance product line. WebEnhance 300 is a PCI-X based hardware accelerator card that can compress web pages such as HTML, JavaScript, etc. in real-time before they are transmitted on the network, expanding existing bandwidth capacity by up to 6x and significantly reducing the computational overhead from the CPU. With a throughput of 1 Gbps, WebEnhance 300 now offers three times the performance of WebEnhance 100. The newly designed hardware includes a 64 bit PCI-X bus interface, 133 MHz compression core frequency, and two compression engines running on a single FPGA.

Indra Networks data compression technology is based on industry-standard gzip algorithm, which ensures compatibility with all popular web browsers available today and does not require any special software installation on the end-user machine.

Indras WebEnhance 300 enables our Equalizer Series of application traffic management products to speed content delivery by up to 3x while also providing considerable savings in bandwidth, said Bill Kish, CEO and CTO of Coyote Point Systems, a leading provider of Web application acceleration systems. Indras technology was easy to integrate into our systems, enabling us to extend our product line with a cost-effective, hardware-based compression solution. We are very pleased with our decision to adopt Indras WebEnhance product.

Software based compression has proved itself to be slow and inefficient in dealing with servers with high data loads. For customers who need Gigabit throughput in their Web servers or appliances, WE300 is an extremely cost-effective solution. Deployment of WebEnhance 300 will result in higher throughput from web servers, optimum utilization of existing network, and significant savings in bandwidth costs, said Monish Shah, CEO of Indra Networks.

Indras WebEnhance product line addresses the critical needs of website operators by performing data compression on dedicated processors and thereby removing the additional burden placed on the host CPU. Indras compression technology maximizes bandwidth usage and enables faster downloads, shorter response time, and savings in bandwidth costs. The WebEnhance 300 card can be plugged into any server that has a PCI-X slot and requires minimal amount of time on installation, configuration, and management. To enable Indras hardware compression, small changes to the Web server or Web proxy software are required to call Indras compression API. Driver and source code is available for both Linux and FreeBSD operating systems.

Availability WebEnhance 300 is available immediately.
