Amber Alerts Take To The Interet

Amarillo, TX (PRWEB) May 25, 2004

It is well known that the AMBER Plan is a voluntary partnership amoung the community at large, broadcasters and law-enforcement agencies to activate urgent bulletins in child-abduction cases. Now, several new working groups have joined the national effort in taking the plan a few steps further.

Team Amber Alert, a Texas Non Profit Corporation and an IRS 501 C(3), has announced the introduction of an Internet-based system that can instantly post AMBER alerts and other emergency broadcasts from local law enforcement.

Broadcasters have used the Emergency Alert System (EAS), formerly the Emergency Broadcast System, to distribute AMBER alerts to the public via EAS RF Relay. Now Team Amber Alert makes this possible online, by broadcasting alerts via an automated system to the public, which law enforcement and missing children organizations posts directly to the Team Amber Alert Online System.

Team Amber Alert was formed out of a project by the first functioning National Amber Alert ticker system’s group at Msnx Communication, which has direct contact with the public, business, industry and government. International support was already been implemented since 2002 and will be fully functioning worldwide first quarter of 2005.

Team Amber Alert is encouraging people to register to receive alerts for their local area and has placed an open invitation for any company or organization with their own internal Amber Alert program, to be integrated directly with TAA system.

Team Amber Alert provides web hosting, volunteer recruiting and internet based cooperative fund raising to assist funding missing children non-profit organizations and their projects. The company’s services also include permission-based email marketing, web application development, design and content development via Msnx Communications.

Team Amber Alert’s software engineers are among the nations leading experts in computer security and cross platform applications development and are skilled in all contemporary applications development languages. Team Amber Alert costs are paid for by corporate sponsorships, which can be found listed on the Team Amber Alert web site. AC_MetaDATA WG at Msnx Communications turned over the responsibilities of the web based system to Team Amber Alert in November of 2003.

Our Primary goal is to reliably relay Amber Alerts from the issuing agencies. And in the event of national emergency to have community chapter in place to assist in all facets of the emergency response.

Team Amber Alert works closely with the left behind family and provide counseling to victims. The new national consortium will also be a real time source for all relays both RF and Digital based networks. Team Amber Alert formed a loose confederation of members that grew out of the desire of many left behind parents to stop this madness of abduction. While some have duplicated, reinvented or otherwise tried to enhance Amber Alert System, no one person can take credit. There is much left to accomplished. The existing systems do not work without volunterism. Please Join us today. Be a real part of America’s Amber Alert Team.

Msnx Communications has been a leader in web design and providing applet scripts to deliver text based messages. In first quarter 2002 Msnx’s AC_MetaData WG released the first encapsulated java script java applet. This was losely based on CNN newsticker and Sun’s Java examples. Virtual Town Crier on the Internet for Amber Alert DATA. In order to turn this work over to volunteers, Team Amber Alert INC was formed as a non profit public charity.

A disturbing number of company websites are a waste of money, time and cyberspace

(PRWEB) May 27, 2004

A disturbing number of company websites are a waste of money, time and cyberspace, because they are not constructed in such a way as to be compatible with the major search engines that generate the majority of Internet traffic.

That’s the conclusion of Dr Michael Gray, managing director of one of Scotland’s top web designers Web Age, who can boast many tangible successes in securing top positions on search engine results pages for their clients.

Web Age are proven experts in the comparatively new field of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).

SEO is the process of promoting a business and its products and services online in order to achieve better search engine rankings for relevant, targeted key phrases.

Search engine ranking is important for most businesses because more and more people are using the Internet in order to source suppliers of the goods and services that they require. And it is estimated that 85% of Internet customers use search engines and directories in order to facilitate their search.

This means that people keying in (for example) “office cleaning services Scotland” are probably predisposed to buying office cleaning services in Scotland, and are therefore, to use the salesman’s jargon, “qualified leads”.

But research also indicates that these potential customers will not look beyond the first one or two pages of search engine results.

Which makes it absolutely vital to second-guess the customer and correctly identify the key words and phrases that he or she is going to type into the search engine when looking for the goods or services that you have on offer, and for your website to attain the highest possible search engine results page listing for those key words or phrases.

These key words and phrases must then be incorporated into the title, meta tags and body copy of your website, and this begins the process of search engine optimisation. SEO can be described as the technique which optimises both the HTML (the code which translates the idea of your website into its physical embodiment on the Internet) and the content of the site for both search engines and visitors alike in order to achieve higher rankings. SEO will increase qualified traffic and generate customer enquiries that will ultimately convert into sales.

As Michael Gray points out, “The customer is already looking for your product or service by the time he hits your page. The important thing is to make sure he hits your page.”

It is estimated that as many as 70% of website owners are missing out on vital search engine traffic because their websites are not specifically designed in order to ensure a high ranking.

Having the best-looking site in the world will not help one bit, maintains Michael Gray. Search engines cannot judge appearance, and do not give points for artistic impression.

And the use of eye-catching popular animated gizmos based on products like Flash or JavaScript are similarly to all intents and purposes invisible to search engines, and can seriously and detrimentally affect the SEO process. As can elements contained within frames, and pages that enforce the acceptance of cookies.

And merely registering your website’s URL (address) with all the major search engines won’t give your pages a decent chance of getting on the vital first page of the search engine results pages. In fact, the opposite is true.

The Google / Yahoo combination commands almost 90% of the search engine market share. They employ robotic “spiders” or “crawlers” to investigate and rank websites. And websites that are submitted or registered are automatically given a lower ranking than those found by the search engines themselves.

And contrary to myth and any sales hype that you may read, there is no software available, nor will there ever be, that can automate the SEO process. There simply is no substitute for expert knowledge, experience and hard work.

One of the things that SEO experts like Web Age can do is to make sure that all your key words and phrases are incorporated both in your website’s metatag coding, and as free-flowing text that will be interesting to your customers on your web pages themselves.

And another important consideration is the number and quality of the “links” from your website to others on similar or related subjects.

The whole principal of the worldwide web is that pages link to other pages offering relevant information on the same or related topics.

So when the Google search engine spider looks at a website, it not only scores the pages on their own content and quality, but also places a high importance on both the number of pages that link to it, and the quality of those pages.

And Google will not include a page on its database in the first place unless it contains in it at least one link to another page already on its database.

In conclusion, each page on your website must be content-rich, search engine-friendly, and be easily found by potential customers using relevant search terms. Search engine optimisation can achieve this.

As Michael Gray points out, “Right now, your website’s low search engine ranking could be costing you many times more than the price of search engine optimisation. SEO is initially a self-liquidating, and then a profit-maximising investment.”

Manchester United: top of the web accessibility league?

(PRWEB) July 1, 2004

A while ago Manchester United launched a separate accessible version of their website, manutd.com/access. There’s been lots of publicity surrounding this website and it even picked up an award. This accessible version doesn’t offer as much content as the main website but it has all the accessible features you could dream of: resizable text, ALT tags, screen reader optimisation etc.

Wow! Everyone should make a completely separate website for disabled people, right? Not so, according to Trenton Moss of web usability and accessibility specialists, Webcredible (http://www.webcredible.co.uk). He explains…

Last week I went to an all-you-can eat buffet. The tables were on the ground floor but the buffet was situated on the first floor, up a flight of steep stairs. In order to serve their disabled customers, the restaurant had decided to offer an alternative version of the buffet, with most of the main dishes, on the ground floor.

The non-disabled customers weren’t happy that they had to walk up and down those stairs just to get some food; the disabled guests weren’t happy at not being able to eat any pickles (they weren’t deemed popular enough to be placed on the ground floor buffet); and the waiters were unhappy that they had to work so much harder to maintain two separate buffets. Plus, they’re being told by their manager that the ground floor buffet should eventually offer all the same food as the upstairs regular buffet, which means even more work for them!

What a ridiculous situation! If only the restaurant had set up a travelator to get to the buffet then the non-disabled guests wouldn’t be unhappy about climbing those stairs, disabled guests wouldn’t feel marginalised and the waiters wouldn’t have to do the same job twice. And from what I hear travelators are quite cheap and easy to install nowadays.

Actually, I never went to this restaurant; in fact, it doesn’t even exist, except as a metaphor for the Manchester United website. The buffet on the first floor is their main website, a pain for non-disabled users due to its high inaccessibility: Menus rely on JavaScript (not supported by 5% of Internet users (source: http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2004/March/javas.php)); ALT tags are missing from images (just one in four UK Internet users are on broadband (source: http://www.statistics.gov.uk/pdfdir/intc0504.pdf) – users on slow connections may turn off images to speed up download time); and usability is incredibly poor.

In the upstairs buffet part of the Man Utd website there are over 100 choices in the navigation menu. The downstairs buffet, manutd.com/access, has eight. That’s a lot of pickles being withheld.

Then there are the waiters/web developers, having to manage two buffets/websites, and ultimately they’re expected to provide the same amount of food/information to both.

What Manchester United has done goes against the whole concept of web accessibility. The positive press coverage they’ve received for this website is actually damaging to the promotion of web accessibility as a whole – if companies think they have to go to these extremes to make their website accessible then it will surely discourage them to do this. To top it all off, manutd.com/access, although I’m sure is fully accessible to disabled and blind people, doesn’t even pass the W3C Priority 2 checkpoints!

So come on, Manchester United, ditch this ‘alternative’ website and fix up your main website so that it’s accessible to everyone, both disabled and non-disabled. It’ll save you time and money in the long run and there really isn’t that much you need to do. Web accessibility isn’t rocket science and doesn’t have to be taken to the extreme lengths it’s been taken to here. It’s usually just a case of a bit of tweaking here and there. You certainly don’t need to make a whole new website.

PocoMail 3.0 - easy to use and powerful email program that is not vulnerable to common email security exploits

(PRWEB) July 8, 2004

PocoMail 3.0 – easy to use and powerful email program that is not vulnerable to common email security exploits

PocoMail is an easy to use and powerful email program that is not vulnerable to common email security exploits. It offers unique virus protection, intelligent filtering capabilities, and simple administration.

Why is PocoMail unique?

Unlike some competing products, PocoMail doesn’t use the Internet Explorer component to preview your HTML messages. Instead it uses an internal HTML viewer.

PocoMail does not understand VBScript or JavaScript, which are used to write email viruses.

PocoMail will not run PocoScript, its own scripting language, from messages you receive. While VBScript and JavaScript let a third-party control your mailer, PocoScript was designed to let you better control your mailer. You’ll need to enable PocoScript on a message (to better process it) before the script can run

In addition, PocoMail provides you with protection from spam and email viruses that no other email program can match. Protect yourself from spam and email viruses with great alternative to Microsoft Outlook. PocoMail also provides an integrated learning Bayesian junk mail filter for greater filtering accuracy.

When you download a message with live HTML tags, the tags reference an image stored on the sender’s computer (owned, for example, by a telemarketer, a hacker, etc). Since the embedded location link is unique to your message, the sender can find out if you’ve received the message, if and how many times you’ve read it. The sender can even determine your IP address. Spammers use this tactic to verify “live” addresses in their database so they can send you more junk mail or sell your address. Even if you delete or block the email, they know you’re there.

Spam Filtering

Filters: filter messages by variety of conditions and actions; text matching can be made to ignore special characters and HTML comments to foil common spam tactics.

Junk Mail Filters: enable sophisticated and flexible junk mail filters to help you deal with spam; PocoMail even integrates sophisticated learning Bayesian junk mail filter for accurate spam removal.

Productivity

Tabbed mailbox access: pin your frequently used mailboxes for quick access; drag messages directly to tabs; open mailboxes in current or new tabs.

Message Threading: each mailbox can be set to threaded view, so that you can follow conversation threads which is especially useful for reading newsgroups.

Selective Index View: quickly turn a mailbox of 10,000 messages into a view of 10 messages from the sender you need; or show only unread messages; or only messages received today; revert to full view easily.

Templates: setup templates to quickly compose repetitive messages; Templates can also be used to send form-replies to common queries.

Followup Link: if you view a message that you already replied to PocoMail will show a Followup Link along the top of the preview pane with a direct access to the reply you sent originally.

Text Auto-complete: if you write a certain phrase over and over again when composing mail, utilize our auto-complete feature so that typing “addr” expands right away into your full address.

Flexible Attachments Handling: supported attachments are previewed right inside the message, or with quick to access tabs, whether they are left encoded in the message or not.

Special Features

PocoScript: exercise the ultimate control over your mailbox with the built-in scripting language; run your scripts on incoming messages, selected messages and even on timed or application-based events.

PocoConsole: get instant overview and access to newly arrived mail; read and respond directly from PocoConsole without having to open the main application window.

Quote Bar: if you don’t like to quote complete messages when replying then don’t – use the Quote Bar inside the Compose window to selectively quote the original message with a single click.

Utilities

Message Markings: messages can be quickly marked with mouse or keyboard; once marked, they can be easily shown on their own, or even searched based on the mark applied.

Skinning: change the application appearance, from colours to graphics, so it better suits your working environment.

Emoticons: add some flare to your messages by inserting some of over 50 provided emoticons; these are tiny images that are actually sent with the message and viewed with almost any email client.

Full page preview pane: you have a nice monitor, why squint at your half-sized preview pane? PocoMail lets you view your preview pane in full.

Spell Checker: with spell-as-you-type you never have to worry about sending letter-perfect emails; dictionaries for other languages are also available.

Options: comprehensive set of program options allows you to fine tune PocoMail to your exact needs, including disabling most of PocoMail’s interface and using barebones display.

Mailbox Options: override global program options on per-mailbox basis, including preview pane visibility and orientation; optionally, apply these settings to all sub-mailboxes.

Multiple Accounts: setup unlimited number of email accounts and newsgroup servers; drag and drop accounts in the order you wish to use them; many per-account options available.

Hierarchical Mailboxes: organize your mailbox to suit you, not the application – different email accounts can share mailboxes, while Online Mailboxes can let you read Newsgroups or view messages server.

Newsgroups Support: read Usenet or private newsgroups directly from PocoMail; save articles you need to your regular mailboxes; respond to authors or groups; pre-fetch next article automatically.

Vertical Index Display: besides allowing for full page preview pane, it presents your mailbox in an easy to read format, with one click access to message marking and even threading.

Application Toolbar: the very flexible toolbar lets you view it in several sizes, including the ability to customize which buttons you see on it.

Address Tools: add any address to your address book with a handy “+” button in the headers; get Report on Address with the other button, see if you have this address in any book or group and add it quickly.

Customize Application: tweak the application display, from different pane layouts available to you, to skins, colours, toolbar appearance and fonts.

Canadian magazine publisher releases worldÂ’s first interactive rich PDF edition with video, VR, animations and Web links

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) July 15, 2004

Canadian technology journal Graphic Exchange today released the world’s first interactive rich media digital magazine in Portable Document Format (PDF), a 58-page issue containing QuickTime videos, QuickTime VR (virtual reality), and hundreds of Web links.

The new on-screen edition, a collaboration between Graphic Exchange (http://www.gxo.com) and Toronto-based new media production company BC Pictures (http://www.bcpictures.com), has been designed both in shape and appearance to mirror the printed version, which is now published in a tabloid-width landscape format. The magazine also sports the abbreviated title “gX”, a move intended to harmonize the publication’s print and online identities.

“Crossover” editorial theme reflects cross-media initiative

With its theme of ‘Crossover—cross-media goes mainstream’, gX has also expanded its editorial mandate beyond “digital content creation for print, video and the Web” and into broader “digital lifestyle” themes. The Summer 2004 issue offers articles ranging from an interview with Canadian television host and magazine editor-in-chief Jeanne Beker to ‘DJ Culture’, an article digging deep into the digital music scene. The issue also explores online video technologies in ‘Building your own online TV station’, and profiles Pi Media, Canada’s largest digital content creation company. A Resources section catalogs a lengthy list of graphics-related websites, while ‘Scriptomania’ reviews the best in script fonts—a popular type category with Web designers and “scrapbookers”. Stories in the rich PDF edition are supplemented with video and other rich media.

“We have pioneered the use of new graphics technologies ever since we began publishing Graphic Exchange in 1991,” says gX publisher and editor-in-chief Dan Brill. “Our readership consists of creative professionals who are sophisticated technology users, so we felt that the time was right to take a radically different cross-media approach to the creation and delivery of pages for this audience. What we have is truly a twenty-first century publishing model—for both subscribers and advertisers, the new digital version is like a combination of TV and the Internet. Capitalizing on PDF 1.5’s ability to either embed or stream video and animations lets us bring our editorial to life, with rich media that emulates broadcast television—and we can even include commercials. For readers, Web links in every article add a whole new editorial dimension to explore, allowing them to instantly use a browser to dig deeper into any highlighted word.”

New print size and format complement full screen PDF pages

In paper form, gX pages are now close to 40% bigger than before and as wide as a tabloid, measuring almost 13” by 9-1/2 inches high.

Landscape orientation delivers two immediate benefits to readers and advertisers, according to the publisher. Not only can the magazine’s high quality color images and illustrations be presented in a larger, more pleasing visual style, but advertisers also get more space for the same cost. Ads in the PDF versions appear in the same position as in the printed version, with links built into each one to any Web page that the advertiser requests.

The cross-platform digital version of gX automatically launches in Adobe Reader (for either Windows or Mac) in “full-screen” mode, filling the viewer’s screen with the page. An elegant custom interface with pop-out table of contents and simple, easy-to-use navigation buttons lets users browse articles and rich media, while every advertiser has its own link from anywhere in the magazine. A help page is also included which covers system requirements, tips on optimum settings, and a quick FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

Publisher and PDF developer merge ideas to produce hybrid publication

The creation of this cross-media publishing format was a merger of ideas conceived by BC Pictures principal Bob Connolly and Graphic Exchange publisher Dan Brill.

“This PDF version of gX lets its audience enjoy an experience that’s better and richer than just through a browser,” says Connolly. “Since BC Pictures has had a close working relationship with Graphic Exchange for so long, we felt confident that we knew how to take the content in the magazine and re-create it in rich PDF. Although we have produced dozens of interactive rich media PDFs for our clients, this was probably the most demanding job we’ve done, especially when you consider that on screen we also had to match the magazine’s high requirements for crisp type and brilliant color.”

Sophisticated JavaScript and special programming to embed and stream high quality videos, 360-degree virtual reality tours, animated graphics, and slide shows directly into the document are among the numerous unique features which were specially written for the PDF versions by BC Pictures programming specialist Jason Lee.

“I’m looking forward to the next issue,” Lee remarks. “There’s so much more that we can put into a PDF, like built-in forms, Flash files, high quality music tracks, and even high definition full-screen videos—as we’re beginning to do for our major corporate clients in their PDF catalogs and brochures. So I expect the next gX will be even richer in content than this first issue.”

Technology convergence spawns multiple digital versions

According to Brill, the creation of the Graphic Exchange screen publication came about through the convergence of four important technology developments: the release of the new PDF 1.5 specification, which supports Adobe Reader 6; new personal computers, now routinely boasting multi-gigahertz processors; the widespread availability of low cost commercial broadband services, with download speeds up to five megabits per second or more; and vastly improved video compression codecs.

The premier issue of gX in rich PDF is now online and available for download. Although pages in all three versions look identical, rich media is handled differently in each:

• The complete 92MB embedded rich media version (PDF 1.5), which requires the new Adobe Reader 6 (available free from http://www.adobe.com) and Apple QuickTime 5 or later (available free from http://www.apple.com), contains fourteen individual QuickTime video clips and two QTVR virtual reality presentations, as well as a host of links to URLs for people, companies, places, terminology, sources, and topics that are mentioned in each article. This edition has all rich media built right into the file, meaning it can be viewed in its entirety without an active Internet connection. System requirements are Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows Millennium Edition, Windows NT 4 with Service Pack 6, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2, Windows XP Professional or Home Edition, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, or Macintosh OS X v10.2.2 or later.

• A scaled-down (13.6MB) PDF 1.5 version combines embedded rich media with high quality streaming videos, which are fed into the pages of the publication from the gX server. Software and system requirements for this version are the same as the embedded version, and access to rich media requires a high speed Internet connection.

• A basic PDF 1.3 version for Adobe Acrobat Reader 4 or 5 and Windows 98/95 or Macintosh OS 9 systems is also available. This compact 6.3MB edition does not include video (PDF 1.3 does not support rich media). However, custom programming created by BC Pictures allows even those using earlier versions of Acrobat Reader to click on interactive pages and go to online links via their browsers. Readers without high speed Internet services or those still on older systems and software (which includes many large corporate environments) will likely be most interested in this feature.

To download Graphic Exchange in PDF, go to http://www.gxo.com/download.php and click on the download instructions.

Copies of the print version are also available at a cost of US$ 9.95 (VISA accepted, mailing and handling costs included). Requests for gX in print may be e-mailed to mail@gxo.com or mailed to Graphic Exchange, 25 Elm Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M4W 1M9 (please allow 10-14 days for delivery).

Menlo Logic Unveils Virtual Passage SSL VPN Client and New HTTP Proxy

(PRWEB) July 24, 2004

AccessPoint SSL VPN Toolkit 1.1 Extends the Leading SSL VPN Solution Expressly for Original Equipment Manufacturers

Palo Alto, CA (July 24, 2004) – Menlo Logic, the leading developer of SSL VPN software for network equipment manufacturers, today announced the availability of AccessPoint Virtual Passage, an SSL VPN Client for Windows, and a high performance HTTP reverse proxy with full JavaScript support.

Virtual Passage SSL VPN Client

AccessPoint Virtual Passage provides secure remote access to all network resources, including TCP and UDP applications. Virtual Passage reduces administrative costs and deployment time by enabling users to securely connect to a remote network by downloading a web plug-in from the SSL VPN portal. Users avoid the installation and configuration issues of traditional VPN clients because the web plug-in downloads and installs transparently on all Windows 2000 and XP machines.

Enhanced HTTP Reverse Proxy

Web based applications have catapulted the growth of SSL VPN technology. More and more resources, from email to corporate databases to employee and human resources information are available over the web. Therefore, it is not surprising that many companies want to provide secure remote access to these web applications from a standard web browser rather than manage IPSec VPN client installation and configuration.

However, to securely proxy data to Intranet web sites, all URLs within HTML, JavaScript, VBScript, and XML content must be rewritten. Because of the complexity of translating this data quickly and accurately, Menlo Logic has introduced a new reverse proxy that uses patent-pending technology to rewrite and interpret HTML content. The improved AccessPoint reverse proxy translates all web content, including JavaScript and VBScript, and supports all web browsers and operating systems.

AccessPoint SSL VPN Toolkit Features

AccessPoint Virtual Passage, an SSL VPN client for complete network connectivity

Secure, customizable web portal with:

HTTP and HTTPS proxy support

Web-based FTP and Network Neighborhood file sharing

Terminal Access via Telnet and SSH Java thin clients

Remote Desktop access via VNC and Microsoft Terminal Services

TCP Tunneling for clientless, secure email and TCP application access

RADIUS, LDAP, Active Directory, and NT Domain Authentication

The AccessPoint SSL VPN Toolkit provides equipment vendors with a turnkey SSL VPN solution for products ranging from embedded networking devices to powerful, enterprise-class security appliances. The AccessPoint SSL VPN Toolkit supports Linux, Solaris and BSD operating systems and standard SSL acceleration hardware. Because of it portability, many equipment vendors can simply drop the AccessPoint SSL VPN software into their existing firewall or routing devices with minimal development or integration.

About Menlo Logic

Menlo Logic is a trusted provider of advanced SSL VPN solutions for security and network equipment vendors. Founded in 2003, Menlo Logic’s products enable OEMs to quickly and easily integrate SSL VPN functionality into a wide range of networking devices including access routers, firewalls, content switches, intrusion prevention devices and wireless access points. Menlo Logic’s software solutions are purpose-built for embedded hardware manufacturers and provide best-of-breed security, broad SSL VPN client and application support, and a portable software implementation in a small memory footprint.

New w3compiler™ Software Compresses Web File Size up to 90% for Internet Speed, Bandwidth Savings, and Protection of Intellectual Property

SAN DIEGO, CA (PRWEB) August 12, 2004

Port80 Software, a developer of Web performance tools, launches w3compiler™, a proven application for Web file compression via code optimization.

Web programmers and designers from hundreds of companies use w3compiler to efficiently reduce Web file sizes before deploying sites and applications on any Web server platform. Tested on millions of lines of code, Port80 Software’s w3compiler automated code optimization offers:

Faster Web page loads with smaller file transfers

Reduced bandwidth costs for Web site and application owners

More secure code and intellectual property protection by discouraging hacker “View Source” analysis

“Consultants charge thousands to optimize ‘by hand’. One developer can crunch an entire site with w3compiler in minutes,” said Joseph Lima, COO of Port80 Software. “The average HTML file can be reduced by 40%, and w3compiler compresses some JavaScript by 90%.”

Code optimization saves money while accelerating and securing Web sites and applications. Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Safari, Mozilla, etc.) and search engine robots access and download compressed files faster and more cost-effectively. Compiled code is also difficult to decipher visually, enhancing security.

w3compiler safely crunches (X) HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ASP, ASP.NET, ColdFusion, and PHP files. Optimization techniques include removing white space and comments, file name and color remapping, entity reduction, and meta tag management. The software automates JavaScript compression and obfuscation by shortening user-defined variables, functions, and objects, and remapping built-in object names. Developers continue to work with their normal, unoptimized files and then deploy “w3compiled” code to Web servers. The original files, left untouched, can be edited while Web-ready code is optimized for speed and security.

Designed to run on Windows 2000, XP, and Windows Server 2003, w3compiler has GUI and command line interfaces for scripted optimization and an internal preview browser. w3compiler is available in a free fifteen-day trial and for purchase ($ 79.95 per CPU) at http://www.w3compiler.com.

Port80 Software, Inc. is a leading developer of tools for Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Web servers. The company also offers w3compiler, a desktop application for code optimization. 5thavenuewoman.com has announced they are stepping into the highly competitive internet search engine market focusing on women business.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) August 15, 2004

“We regard this as an important initiative. We wanted to encourage our members, most of whom are involved or interested in web development in some form, to help to solve the problem of what are arguably the biggest hurdles for web developers: browser bugs and poor support for W3C standards.” said Karen Bellamy, publisher and founder of the 5thavenuewoman.com web site. “Our goal is not to promote the browser from one company over the other: however, now that there’s a choice of several browsers that do support most of the standards, it’s time.” she added.

“Our site is optimized for the latest, standards-compliant browsers. We try to avoid non-valid markup as much as possible. Our site is somewhere in between going all-out by relying on CSS only for representation, and using lots of heavy handed backwards-compatible workarounds. There’s not a “font” tag to be seen in our markup, nor a JavaScript error message.” noted Bellamy.

“A significant portion of our web site readers are not that experienced in web development. We felt that this was a good opportunity to educate our readers about this issue, as well as show them a living example of how it can be possible to built a site that “works” without bending over backwards to deal with browser bugs” she said.

In order to make the point in a gentle manner, starting today all pages on the 5thavenuewoman.com will include a small reminder to upgrade their browsers. The message will only appear in version 4.x and earlier graphical, JavaScript capable browsers.

Originally conceived as a companion site for a thriving mailing list, 5thavenuewoman.com has grown rapidly from an average of 1,000 hits per day to more than 15,000 per day since its launch in June 2004.

(PRWEB) August 27, 2004

Everyfind allows you to design a website search engine script for your web site, CD, DVD, MP3 or any portable documentation. This website search software does not require server side execution access and can run virtually anywhere.

Visual compatible with your design

This search engine contains professionally designed templates for creating your own search engine. You have full control over its appearance. Simply insert two HTML tags into a table in your web page.

Runs on any place

The web site search engine is based on JavaScript, so you dont need any special server-side programs to use it. You can place the search form on any web page and call this search engine as easily as a CGI script. You can also create search engines for CD and DVD, MP3 collections or portable users manuals.

Innovation techniques

Our search engine script is extremely small but powerful. We use intelligent size-saving algorithm to select right keywords from web pages so that you can easily balance the generated web page size with search relevancy. Is supported wilcard and boolean search.

Usable for your needs

The program can index HTML files, server side scripts (PHP, ASP, Perl), documents(PDF, RTF), MP3 collections and text files. You can also manually add any links to any files, usenet groups, ftp, gopher resources and even email addresses. The program allows you to control rankings of the links you add. When the site is updated, you can synchronize the search database with just a few mouse clicks.

Usable for your visitors

You can group search links in different categories to let users narrow their search. The report is split into several pages, so that users wont have to scroll the browser window, if search results contain hundreds of web pages. Precision search with accurace hit calculation lets users find your pages quickly.

1craftsearch.com is optimized for latest, standards-compliant browsers

(PRWEB) August 28, 2004

According to Jon Prano, CEO of 1craftsearch.com web site, “The timing of this search engine couldn’t be better. This search engine offers programs designed to foster the creative and professional development of craft artists. In recent years we have noticed a growing interest within the craft community for educational programs focusing on the ‘business of art’.”

Through this search engine you’ll discover information, to meet their interests and needs. “Your Craft, Your Business” search engine draws upon the resources of both sponsoring organizations.

Jon Prano says this search engine will help “Marketing for the Creative Small Business person.”

“Our site is optimized for the latest, standards-compliant browsers. We try to avoid non-valid markup as much as possible. Our site is somewhere in between going all-out by relying on CSS only for representation, and using lots of heavy handed backwards-compatible workarounds. There’s not a font tag to be seen in our markup, nor a JavaScript error message.” noted Prano.

“A significant portion of our web site readers are not that experienced in web development. We felt that this was a good opportunity to educate our readers about this issue, as well as show them a living example of how it can be possible to build a site that “works” without bending over backwards to deal with browser bugs” Prano said.

1craftsearch.com offers the arts and craft industry, online marketers and entrepreneurs an unprecedented opportunity to reach a high-quality, receptive audience in this unique and profitable niche.

DiskView - visually organize and manage disk contents

(PRWEB) August 30, 2004

DiskView v 2.0 features advanced reporting using HTML and XML, custom stylesheet support, scripting capabilities and newer, unmatched features like file fragmentation representation in the DiskView charts. The DiskView Column handlers have been enhanced to show additional information and are more customizable. With this major release of DiskView, we are announcing a more powerful version of DiskView, DiskView Professional, with advanced customization capabilities using industry standard technologies like COM based scripting, XSL and XML, especially targetted towards power users, system administrators and our business customers.

Enhancements:

File fragmentation report – DiskView can report file fragmentation information visually through the DiskView Pie chart visualization mode. This option can be enabled through the DiskView Options dialog.

HTML Reporting – In DiskView Professional, DiskView reports can be saved as HTML pages

XML Reporting – In DiskView Professional, DiskView reports can be saved as XML documents

Custom Stylesheet support – In DiskView Professional, custom XSL stylesheets can be applied to generate and render the DiskView usage reports

Scripting capabilities – DiskView can be used to write custom scripts with industry standard COM enabled scripting languages including VBScript, JavaScript and Python to query and generate disk usage statistics and custom reports.

DiskView Columns can show actual size as well as size allocated on disk based on the corresponding setting in the DiskView Options dialog.

DiskView makes file management a breeze for home and business users alike. DiskView analyzes disk space usage and presents it visually within Windows Explorer. DiskView helps find big files at a glance, and visually shows how disk space is organized both for local hard disks as well as for network shares and mapped network drives.

DiskView uses a combination of color, shape, size, texture and transparency to represent various attributes of the file-system – hidden files and folders are transparent, newer are bright, system files have distinctive patterns and file-system attributes are depicted with icons.

A fully functional evaluation version is available at http://www.diskview.com/download.htm

DiskView Standard edition costs $ 39.99, while the Professional version retails for $ 120.00

BrowserBob Makes Web Application Development ChildÂ’s Play

(PRWEB) September 10, 2004

The company BrowserBob Weblications has announced the release of version 3.2 of their multi-award winning multimedia authoring solution BrowserBob. The tool, which originally was a visual browser authoring solution, enabling users to generate fully branded standalone browsers via Drag & Drop, has evolved to the web application authoring solution of the future with the latest release. BrowserBob makes available a whole new concept for efficient creation of professional applications without the need of programming skills. Application interfaces are created via Drag & Drop, behaviours are chosen from menus – programmers can even add their own functionalities using standard script languages.

By integration of standard internet technologies with fully customizable user interfaces and preconfigured button functions, BrowserBob finally fills the gap between desktop application design and web design. Web designers are able to create real applications now and desktop programmers can move their apps’ to the web using this tool. The open architecture for use with JavaScript or VBScript extensions and Flash makes it an efficiency booster for web designers and developers.

“Sometimes you would just like to be able to hand someone a small, custom multimedia browser so that you can deliver Web applications very efficiently. (…) I have yet to figure out what you can’t build in the way of a customized browser.” Mark Gibbs, tech-newsletter author, Network World.

The Professional Edition of BrowserBob generates customized standalone programs of various types, combining current web technologies and media to new exciting applications.

Usage of the tool is straight forward, as applications are generated by simply dragging components such as buttons to their intended place, setting parameters, assigning the graphics and choosing ready made behaviours from menus. Existing files (html-pages, any media, external programs, flash, pdf, anything viewable in a browser) can be integrated and shipped with the finished program via few clicks of the mouse.

Advanced features include interface change on the fly, control of the whole application out of html-pages via script extensions, combination of multiple behaviours to action lists, multiple content windows on a single interface, global variables to be exchanged by 3rd parties and many more…

Finishing an application could not be simpler than clicking a button in order to generate a selfextracting exe, a fully branded setup for your application, make it an interactive screensaver or even generate the application as activeX control for launch via a link from the web. This is a world exclusive feature of BrowserBob Professional Edition, allowing you to create real free-floating homepages.

BrowserBob applications can be re-branded by 3rd parties using the free BrowserBob Tuner tool, which allows users (such as affiliate resellers of eBooks) to change global variables and enter their own values such as startpages, reseller ID’s and whatever has been foreseen by the creator for later changes.

Mainly targeting professional users such as web developers and media agencies, the tool is in fact usable by an audience, which never dreamt of being able to create real applications until today. The company claims the program will generate results in the hands of averagely skilled PC users or the full purchase price will be refunded without questions.

BrowserBob comes in 3 versions, a professional edition, feature limited developer and light editions, as well as an already powerful freeware program. All commercial versions are available as 30 day fully functional trial downloads on the BrowserBob homepage: http://www.browserbob.com

Additionally BrowserBob provides a full, unlocked special edition for the press, in order to distribute it on cover mount CD’s to their readers. This version is given away in exchange for editorial content in the magazine.

The Berlin based company was founded in 1999 and has focused on improving their product BrowserBob ever since. The invention of a Drag & Drop browser maker was the starting point for steady growth and industry leading technology in the field of web application authoring solutions. More than a million installations of BrowserBob can be seen as a proof of concept. BrowserBob applications are regularly awarded with highest ratings of the software industry such as a 5 star (top) rating by industry leader download.com and 5 cows by tucows.com download archive.

The latest top review in the world renowned PC Magazine describes BrowserBob as follows: “Easy to use, drag-and-drop building. No coding required to build custom browsers, screen savers, or skinned Web sites (…) A very cool tool for Web developers, IT professionals, and anyone who wants an easy way to make branded or custom browsers.”

Advanced HTML and plain text template plug-in with script support of MS Outlook.

(PRWEB) September 14, 2004

Potolook is a handy template manager and message filter plug-in for MS Outlook specially created for “heavy” e-mail users who need more options and flexibility than Outlook offers on its own. In addition to simple and rather common features, like adding custom greeting or signatures, the program offers essential options for running successful e-mail campaigns – automatic replies in the language the message was sent, database support (OLE automation interface), complete processing of incoming and outgoing correspondence and much more.

Potolook is also a great tool for companies that provide customer services by e-mail. The plug-in can automatically sort incoming messages based on “trigger” words in the message or subject line (other filtering rules are available as well). Importantly, users can assign custom templates for any folder (like Repeat Customers, Refunds, Orders, Questions, etc.) to make the process of communication with customers a prompt and pleasant one.

Potolook can create both text and HTML templates. Importantly, Potolook is open source software, so any person familiar with JavaScript can modify it or create additional modules for own use. The plug-in also can be used to create templates with active content, which is great for running e-mail surveys and contests.

Because of use of additional modules, Potolook includes in itself functionality of many other plug-ins: compression (including automatic) attachments, moving of duplicates of letters, work with mailing-list (YahooGroups), etc.

A full overview of Potolook capabilities is available at http://www.positic.com/potolook/

Potolook is distributed electronically over the Internet; free demo version is available at http://www.positic.com/ for evaluation. Please, take a note of the fact that this plug-in does not work with Outlook Express.

The price of a single copy is $ 49.95
