Any other cell editor can be easily attached to the TreeGrid. For each cell specific math formula can be set to perform calculations with cell values. Calculations are made in real time and the result can dynamically change depending on cells content.

Other powerful features include cross-browser compatibility, resizable columns, client-side sorting (string, integer, date, custom), support of different event handlers and wide possibilities for customization. dhtmlxTreeGrid can load data tables dynamically from XML data source and handle large data sets.

Verdict: Overall model is not bad but in my opinion its like running a towing company. You never have a happy customer and no one really likes dealing with you. So if you are interested in building a sustainable business I would recommend staying away from this approach.

The site genuinely offers value to the visitor. It gives them information they are seeking. However after the information is received on my site the visitor still has to purchase the diamond. You see information in that particular contest is not the final product visitor is after, therefore the click through ratio on diamondsmadeeasy.com site is on the average 5.12%. To better illustrate my point lets look at another one of my sites jsmadeeasy.com the site offers countless amount of Java Scripts to visitors free of charge. In this particular case the click through ratio is 0.67% quite the difference from diamondsmadeeasy.com site. Now if you think about the type of the visitor that comes to jsmadeeasy.com site youd realize that a visitor is after the script and nothing else. You see the visitor that comes to jsmadeeasy.com gets what he wants as a final product and is not likely to click on any of my banners.

So in summary strive to build sites that provide support to the visitor but do not position your site to be the final product visitor is seeking. Stay away from unoriginal content as you will only drive your visitors away.

Windward's Code Wars Competition Works to Erase Gender Gap in Computer Science

In an era that has seen backwards movement in the percentage of college women majoring in computer science, Windward is helping to change the direction of that trend. The sponsor of the International Collegiate Programming Championship is making a concerted push to encourage female students to take part in the annual competition that challenges teams of computer science students to become the hackathon champion.

“Computer science schools are still 80 percent plus male, and they’re one of the most male-dominated majors today,” says David Thielen, CTO and founder of Windward. “A competition like Code Wars makes the field more interesting to women and helps reduce the imbalance.”

Code Wars is a contest to see which team can write the best code. Students race against the clock and one another to analyze a problem, write a solution, and test and debug it. After the 8-hour programming deadline, teams go head to head.

To further participation by women students, Windward is working with diversity representatives at the various participating colleges. Windward also is sharing the experiences of past women participants to demonstrate the benefits of taking part in the day-long event.

“We really appreciated that the competition emphasized strategy and problem solving rather than simply coding,” said Joline Morrison, a professor in the Computer Science Department at University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, which produced the 2012 Code Wars champion. “I overheard one of our students say, ‘It was a lot of fun brainstorming, strategizing and coding with my teammates theyre awesome!’”

In addition, Windward is featuring the video Windward Code Wars at Harvey Mudd. Harvey Mudd entered multiple coed teams into the 2012 contest and the president of the college, Maria Klawe, is a well-known advocate of fostering more women students in technology.Her initiatives raised the percentage of women computer science majors at Harvey Mudd from 22 to 40 percent in her first six years.

The game begins with all players as humans, and one is randomly selected to be the Original Zombie. The Original Zombie tags human players and turns them into zombies. Zombies must tag and eat a human every 48 hours or they starve to death and are out of the game. Zombies win when all human players have been tagged and turned into zombies. Humans can win by surviving long enough for all of the zombies to starve.

Pittsburgh Technical Institute will become a Humans VS. Zombies battleground for three days beginning November 16 and ending November 18, 2012. Its their sixth HvZ tournament, and according to PTIs Intramural Sports Coordinator, John Palko, HvZ is one of the colleges most popular activities. Palko attributes student response to the game to just one key element. Nerf Guns, said Palko, not-so-jokingly. Its really that simple.

The game is something all students can participate in togetherregardless of major, age, interests or physical ability, said Palko. Humans VS. Zombies tournaments at Pittsburgh Technical Institute typically attract around 125 student participants. And the numbers are growing.

HvZ was invented at Goucher College in 2005. Social networking has enabled the game to expand to more than 650 colleges and universities worldwide, as well as high schools, military bases, summer camps and public libraries.

Students at PTI are career-driven and work very hard, said Palko. Humans vs. Zombies is a way to balance things with some fun. Palko has been with PTI since 2010 and oversees a variety of intramural sports and activities including basketball, deck hockey, soccer, flag-football, faculty vs. student softball and tournament poker.

For example, the fail-silent architecture provides that if a processor provides a faulty output, the information is not passed through the system. Fail-safe ensures that the complete system shuts down, as in the case of an error requiring, for example, the train to stop.

Using two Intel Atom E680T processors, each with 512 MB DDR2 RAM and operating at 1.6 GHz, the F75P combines the benefits of a redundant multiprocessing system with the ruggedness and flexibility of the CompactPCI PlusIO standard on a single card.

The third Intel Atom E680T, featuring 1 GB DDR2, controls the I/O, passing on the commands sent by the two control CPUs to the interfaces across an internal, FPGA-based Ethernet link.

The new F75P offers multiprocessing capabilities on one SBC, providing a small footprint, low-power solution that saves board space, integration costs and system weight, while providing flexibility for various application environments.

For even more system reliability, two F75P SBCs can be clustered. If one card fails, the second can take over from hot or cold stand-by, and operation can continue. An event logger allows tracing and simple read out of any hardware and application events.

Standard front I/O includes one VGA interface, two Fast Ethernet and two USB, while the rear provides access to one PCI Express port, four USB, one SATA and two Fast Ethernet.

A 16 year old Dutch student, Adriaan Graas, interested in Internet security and web development discovered a hack for the popular Hotmail free email service via a Cross Site Scripting attack. Microsoft, is reported to have been aware of this vulnerability for over a week but, at time of writing, has not yet fixed it.

Hacking hotmail via XSS

When logging into Hotmail, a cookie is created allowing continual access of the user while within the domain. Hackers may steal such cookies and produce fakes using such tools as Proxomitron. Since Hotmail cookies are not IP-bound, hackers do not need the password or the email address of the victim for logging in and accessing personal emails and other data. Through Cross Site Scripting (XSS) the hacker inserts JavaScript code that will send the fake cookie to a Web Server with a log script and the deed is done.

Vulnerabilities in MSN and Amazon left unfixed

Security researcher, Yash Kadakia, frustrated by a lack of response from Microsoft and Amazon.com, has gone public with details of flaws on MSN and Amazon. Similar to the Hotmail case, Cross Site Scripting and CRLF (Carriage Return Line Feed) injection vulnerabilities found in these sites could be used by hackers to steal “cookie” data files allowing them access to Amazon.com and MSN accounts, or to display a fake login page that could be used in phishing attacks.

Kadakia said he first notified Microsoft of the problem about a year ago but he wasn’t taken seriously until late last week, when he posted screen shots of the flaw being exploited on his Web site. The Amazon.com flaw was discovered in December and to-date the vulnerability remains un-patched, according to Kadakia.
