After studying the Web and learning how surfers use it and many
Web sites abuse it, a free service has been launched to help
protect the privacy of Internet users from identity theft and
Web site abuses.
“We looked at a lot of issues before we started MisterPrivacy.com,”
says Craig Elder President of the Company. “There’s way too much
personal information being stolen on the Web these days, and most
of it comes directly from Web surfers without their knowledge or
consent.”
In today’s wired world you have to be very careful to protect the
data stored on your computer. Most do this by purchasing a quality
antivirus and firewall package. But what security steps have you
taken to protect yourself?
Information thieves can easily wreak havoc on your credit report
by stealing your identity for only one week. Your home address,
email, phone number, name, and age are gold nuggets to a hacker
looking for some Saturday night fun. But what about the really
personal folders on your computer that contain your tax return and
investment portfolio? Would you want an intruder to have direct,
unauthorized access to these folders when you visit their Web
site?
If there’s any doubt about the secrets you reveal while online,
MisterPrivacy.com provides an online leak detector that reveals
in real time what you could be giving strangers access to when you
visit their Web site. “Our leak detector is just a simple
JavaScript program which shows the visitor the secrets easily
gathered from them online with little effort. But our program only
reports its findings to the visitor, the really scary programs
have a much more malicious intent,” says Elder.
Anonymous Web browsing isn’t new, but it has come of age with the
increasing amounts of malicious programs being written and new
ones ready to make their debut. With just a few simple lines of
computer code on a Web site a vandal can hunt you down and exploit
you from thousands of miles away, or from down the street. And with
virus writers looking for more and more creative ways to turn your
computer against you, it makes sense to use every proven protection
available.
“It’s just normal to want to feel safe while surfing the Web. I know
I don’t want to leave footprints everywhere I go, or worse, have the
contents of my hard drive accessed by strangers. I pay monthly fee to
access the Web, not for the Web to access me,” says Elder.
Currently, MisterPrivacy.com’s anonymous surfing service is completely
free and does not require any special software or operating system
support. Their Surfbar gives you total control over the amount of
privacy you are comfortable with, and it keeps your IP address private,
blocks popups, banners, cookies, malicious scripts, spyware, and
referrers. A second service is planned for later this year and will
include 128-bit encryption for maximum protection online.
