Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) July 8, 2009
Creators of PhoneGap, a ground-breaking mobile application development framework, will teach web developers how to build mobile applications in HTML, CSS and JavaScript while still taking advantage of core features of the iPhone, Google Android and Blackberry. This full-day mobile app development training session takes place in San Francisco on July 19, 2009. Attendees can register at http://nitobi.com/services/phonegap/training/schedule_july19/.
Created at iPhoneDevCamp 2008 by Nitobi Inc., PhoneGap is an open source initiative for bringing native device capabilities to mobile browsers. With PhoneGap, you can author apps in HTML and JavaScript and still take advantage of features like geo location, camera, vibration, local storage and sound. At the end of the training session, attendees will know how to build apps for iPhone, Google Android and Blackberry, and how to contribute back to the open source PhoneGap project.
PhoneGap gained widespread recognition in April when the project won the LaunchPad competition at Web 2.0 Expo. Since then, hundreds of PhoneGap applications have been built and submitted to the Apple app store including, the Blok-Buster (http://bit.ly/Izyrr) game, Coovents (http://bit.ly/mYqIw) for New York happy hour listings and Roadtrippr (http://bit.ly/Qvxep) for finding cool spots to visit, no matter where you are.
“Building apps on different mobile platforms is hard and time consuming,” said Andre Charland, CEO of Nitobi. “We designed PhoneGap for the large group of developers out there who know how to write for standard languages, like JavaScript, CSS and HTML, and who don’t have the time or inclination to learn new languages, like Objective-C. They can use PhoneGap to write an app that will work on many different phones.”
PhoneGap training attendees will learn how to:
Set up a development environment
Compile for multiple platforms
Run code in an emulator
Debug HTML and JavaScript
Access native APIs, including location, camera, accelerometer, contacts, and more via JavaScript
Optimize JavaScript for mobile devices
Build a mobile application that runs offline
Use CSS transitions, animations and transforms to create native looking interfaces
Use the Canvas for advanced graphics
Use mobile JavaScript libraries, such as XUI and Dashcode to build mobile applications faster.
