Flower Mound, TX (PRWEB) May 21, 2009
Genuitec, LLC, maker of the market-leading MyEclipse software and a founding and strategic member of the Eclipse Foundation, today announced the initial milestone release (M1) of MobiOne; a new enterprise-class technology that enables development of mobile applications using Web standards.
MobiOne is a technology that utilizes the power of the WebKit browser engine that drives some of today’s most popular mobile and standard browsers like Apple’s Safari, Google’s Chrome and others. With this browser engine standardized across many of the smart devices (including the iPhone, G1/Android and coming Palm Pre), developers can develop rich applications using the common languages of HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.
“Companies don’t need to make the difficult decisions about which devices to support, or embark on costly training programs for native programming languages,” said Wayne Parrott, vice president of development for Genuitec. “Existing Web and Java developers who know these common languages can be leveraged into a simple, cost effective mobile strategy without application stores or carrier requirements — that includes smart-phones and even netbooks.”
The initial milestone release of MobiOne is available for iPhone development only, but will rapidly support other smart-phone devices with an aggressive delivery cycle. Targeted devices include the G1, Pre, Blackberry, and possibly Nokia and other smart devices being developed.
“The rapid evolution in smart device connectivity and functionality offers companies a unique opportunity to get in on the ‘mobile movement’ quickly and inexpensively,” said Maher Masri, president and CEO for Genuitec. “By demonstrating this concept for iPhone development and then rapidly moving into other device support, MobiOne is leading the way in demonstrating the power of the mobile Web and its ubiquity across these devices as a low barrier to entry.”
As an additional technology innovation, MobiOne’s TruView technology delivers the behavior of smart-phone personalities through a customizable, pixel-perfect micro-browser. TruView provides a rich and accurate mobile Web experience on the desktop, thus eliminating the need for vendor-specific emulators.
In support of the open source community spawning around mobile development, Genuitec heads the “Blinki” project for mobile development at the Eclipse Foundation. The goal is for Blinki is to have an extensible mobile Web developer kit that will be used to build next-generation mobile Web applications. At this time, Genuitec has already released WebKit4SWT for free to the public with plans to contribute the majority of code to the Eclipse Foundation.
