Tech-FAQ Uses Technology To Fight Censorship

Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) July 08, 2011

The Tech-FAQ is one of the Internet’s leading sources for technical information and help. The main mission of the Tech-FAQ is to improve the efficiency of computer users across the globe by providing them with immediate access to the knowledge necessary to resolve technical issues.

One of the common problems reported by Tech-FAQ visitors is trouble connecting to the open web from inside blocked networks. Nations such as Cuba, Red China, North Korea, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, and Burma filter their Internet connections to block visitors from seeing web sites which present a different world view than supported by their political leaders.

Internet users are able to get around these filters by using proxies. The user connects to the proxy site and the proxy site then connects to blocked the destination site, thus bypassing the filter. The filter operators are constantly adding new sites to the block list — including new proxy sites. Proxy sites may only be useful for a few days, or even a few hours, before they are found and blocked.

The solution is to continually create a stream of new proxies. Proxy operators do this every day and then they post their new creations to the Tech-FAQ proxy list. The staff of the Tech-FAQ use proprietary proxy checking scripts to test each proxy every day to ensure that they are operating properly.

Because the Tech-FAQ hosts this proxy list, the filter operators also block access to the Tech-FAQ itself. To work around this, the Tech-FAQ allows users to subscribe to the proxy list via email, monitor it via RSS, or follow the ProxyBlast feed on Twitter. MemeBridge also allows other webmasters to install a small JavaScript on their websites to display recent proxies from the Tech-FAQ proxy list. This effectively allows anyone on the web to publish a proxy list on their web site or blog.

MemeBridge is a company with a mission: Spread Good Ideas. A meme is the smallest unit of thought and the job of MemeBridge is to help carry good memes over obstacles. MemeBridge has extensive experience creating and managing web sites, including the Tech-FAQ, MightyGuide, and Expat Intelligence. MemeBridge web sites serve several million visitors per month and provide information and guidance for people from all over the globe.
