Are You Ready to Go Mo? Hiring Demand for Mobile Developers at New Highs.

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 31, 2012

During June, more than 22,000 job ads were placed online for mobile developers in the United States, according to WANTED Analytics (http://www.wantedanalytics.com), the leading source of real-time business intelligence for the talent marketplace. As usage of the mobile internet grows, organizations are strategically using mobile websites, apps, and commerce platforms to connect with their customers. Hiring demand for tech talent with mobile development skills has grown quickly, now up 159% year-over-year from June 2011, 550% compared to 2010, and more than 800% from February 2009.

Although mobile developers are being recruited across all sectors, Business Support Services, Computer Systems Design Services, and Custom Computer Programming Services companies posted the most online job ads during June. Among the most commonly advertised job titles for mobile developers are Web Developer, Java Developer, .NET Developer, Application Developer, and Android Developer.

The most demanded mobile development skills required by employers are:

1. JavaScript

2. Hypertext markup language (HTML)

3. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

4. Android OS

5. Java

6. Project management

7. Mobile development

8. Website development

9. jQuery

10. Ruby

Mobile development skills are most frequently advertised for jobs located in the New York metropolitan area. During June, more than 2,800 job ads in New York included mobile developers and grew more than 137% over the past year. Other metro areas with high demand for these skills were San Francisco, Los Angeles, Washington (DC), and Chicago. While employers in New York placed the highest number of job ads for this talent pool, one of the highest year-over-year growth areas was actually Chicago where hiring demand grew more than 200% since June of 2011.

As hiring demand continues, the limited talent pool will remain a challenge for employers. According to the Hiring Scale, Recruiters spend approximately 5.5 weeks advertising jobs and sourcing candidates for Mobile Developers. However, this varies by location. Recruiters in Washington, DC are currently experiencing some of the most challenging conditions and fierce competition when recruiting candidates. Employers here are likely to experience a longer time-to-fill than other areas across the United States, with job ads remaining online for more than 6 weeks. In comparison, the Hiring Scale also shows that the best markets for recruiting these skills are Salem (Oregon), Fresno (California), and Bakersfield (California). Lower hiring demand in these areas, coupled with larger talent supply, means that Recruiters are likely to fill job openings in as few as 3 weeks.

The Hiring Scale measures conditions in local job markets by comparing hiring demand and labor supply. The Hiring Scale is part of the WANTED Analytics platform that offers business intelligence for the talent marketplace.
