JetBrains Announces Sponsorship of Prestigious Student "Code Wars" Competition

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) December 17, 2012

JetBrains, the software development firm specializing in intelligent, productivity-enhancing software, announced today it is donating academic licenses prizes to the 2013 International Collegiate Programming Championship. College students who are members of the winning team at each school will receive IntelliJ IDEA, the intelligent IDE for Java and other technologies with an exceptional out-of-the-box feature set, and ReSharper, a productivity tool for .NET developers that enhances the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE.

This sponsorship teams JetBrains with Windward, which created and manages the “Code Wars” contest. Code Wars is a day-long programming game that emphasizes strategy and problem solving rather than simply coding. Teams of top computer science college students design an A.I. to battle other A.I.’s in hand-to-hand combat, and the online competition is the ultimate “green” contest with no travel requirements or costs to participants.

“JetBrains’ innovation and leadership makes them a great fit for Code Wars,” said Dave Thielen, Windward’s founder and CTO. “We’re excited that our participants will be rewarded with some of the best, most productive tools around.”

Teams that participated in last year’s contest included Boston University, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, Harvey Mudd College, Georgia Tech, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Purdue University, Stanford, University of Illinois, University of Massachusetts, University of Toronto and University of Wisconsin.
